Nonprofit community health organization/NGO Description: Since its inception on April 2009, the organization provides school-based health programs, preventive health care, mental health support and other programs to address the health concerns of the residents of Fonfrede. CapraCare is determined to stay efficient in their services, their trainings, and their education curriculum and in their overall operations. Thus, it is imperative that they surround themselves with a great team of individuals including volunteers that showcase commitment, dedication and skills to be part of this fascinating organization.

Location: Fonfrede, Haiti (Les Cayes)

Areas of service: School-based health program, Nutrition education, Preventive health education, Pediatric care services, Mental health support, Community volunteer training & Youth health leadership programs and Earthquake relief.

Volunteer opportunities: Ongoing Pro-bono services in areas of Grant writing, Marketing, Fundraising, Resource Developing and Haitian Creole Translation.
CapraCare also offers virtual volunteering to allow anyone with a computer access and necessary skills to volunteer via the web. This format allows college students and those with limited time, no transportation, no travel abilities to Haiti or that have a physical disability that preclude them from volunteering. This new platform of volunteering enables anyone to work on CapraCare’s website, multi-media, health curriculums, marketing, social networks, newsletter, translation, and other resources.

Qualifications /Protocol: Send an inquiry to info@capracare.org then you may be asked to come in for an interview, fill out a volunteer application or describe your qualifications and your background just as you would at an interview for a paying job. According to Jean Pierre-Louis, the Founder / Excecutive Director of CapraCare, it is in the organization’s interest and more beneficial to the people it serves to make certain you have the skills needed, that you are truly committed to doing the work, and that your interests match those of CapraCare. Capracare normally asks a minimum of six months commitment or they quantify the deliverables for the volunteer. For example, a person may volunteer 5+ hours a week; or the persons is a trainer and/or curriculum developer and is willing to provide CapraCare with two or three workshops. We try to be very flexible.
